Glue Gun Glue Types

Glue guns come in many shapes, sizes, and types, and so do their glue stick counter parts. It is important to find the right glue to use for your glue gun or for the specific project you are working on. Not all surfaces will adhere with a certain type of glue; for example, glass surfaces need a special type of glue stick to be put in the glue gun to work successfully. There are glue sticks that are multifunctional, and there are glue sticks that only serve one purpose. Let’s figure out which ones you need, and which one suits each kind of given situation or scenario.

Lengths and types of glue

Glue sticks can come in many shapes and sizes. Each type of glue stick is manufactured to work and melt in a certain glue gun. If you are using a mini glue gun, you will be purchasing mini glue sticks to fit and work in the gun itself. If you are using a large glue gun, you would accordingly buy the larger fitting sticks that go with your specific gun. If you are looking for glue stick sizes in reference to diameter, they go as following: full size guns use seven sixteenths inch diameter sticks, while mini glue guns typically use five sixteenths size sticks. The diameter is typically written on the back of the glue gun stick package. If you are using industrial glue which is fitted for the larger pedal fed guns, they come in bricks, dabs, chips, and sticks. Clear glue sticks are most common; however there are black glue sticks and glitter filled sticks for kid’s projects.

High temperature glues

High temperature glues must be used in safety. These types of glues are mostly used on metals and plastics. They can be used on ceramic surfaces as well. These glue sticks are heated to around three hundred and eighty degrees Fahrenheit, and must be used with caution. If you are using an industrial type glue gun, it will have multiple settings for glue temperature and dispensary options. Construction workers and contractors use industrial glue guns with high temperature glue sticks to bond wood, metal, and other surfaces together in home construction.

Low temperature glues

For light weight things like fabrics and papers, low temperature glues are used. The glue is heated to around two hundred and eighty degrees Fahrenheit, and is a little less dangerous to be worked with. Low temperature glues are ideal for crafters because it will cause less damage when made in contact with skin if it does in fact happen. This glue type used in glue guns is advantageous because it has low odor and is safer.

Glue stick types are essential for the wide range of things glue guns are used for. Be sure to check with your glue gun manufacturer to check which types of sticks do work in your gun, and which types you should avoid. Be careful and use the glue gun with the utmost respect and safety.
